ASI Helping Fight Hunger with Cans Around the Oval

ASI will be joining Colorado State University, the College of Business and the hundreds of Larimer County residents who are participating in Cans Around the Oval, a CSU annual tradition and Larimer County's largest single-day food drive. A donation box will be set up at the ASI office, located at 324 Remington St. in Fort Collins. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to drop off donations.

“ASI has strong ties with the CSU College of Business, and our team is looking forward to tackling the common goal of ending hunger in Larimer County,” said Jenny Eggleston, Principal and College of Natural Science Alumna. Eight ASI team members are CSU College of Business Alumni.

Jennifer Christon, a College of Business alumna and technical consultant at ASI, feels strongly about supporting the cause. “I participated in the College of Business Dean’s Student Leadership Council in college, and am excited to still be involved with the College as well as Cans Around the Oval,” Christon said.

ASI will be accepting canned food until October 20, when community members gather at the Oval to collect cans from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In 2009, a grand total of 90,000 pounds of food was collected, and could have circled the oval 45 times. This year, the CSU College of Business, the historical leader in financial and can donations over the past 7 years, is seeking to supply 30,000 pounds of food to local food shelters.

In Larimer County, the elderly and children constitute the largest group of people fed at food shelters. The working poor, who average $900 per month income, is the fastest-growing segment of the hungry.

To help the cause, bring your canned food donation to the ASI office, located at 324 Remington St. in Fort Collins.
