Tips & Tools - Sage MAS 500

Sales Tax Setups

Sales Tax Setups within Sage 500 can be confusing. The following tip & tool explains the different elements of the sales tax setup so you can determine which classes, codes, and schedules you need to create.

Tax classes are used with tax codes and tax schedules to determine how to calculate taxes. You can assign tax classes to non-inventory items (to designate whether they are taxable or non-taxable). Sales tax schedules are assigned to vendors and customers.

Opening a Support Case with Sage

If you are on a support plan through Sage, you can take advantage of their support by creating a support case.  This can be done in one of two ways:

Setting up Windows Authentication

MAS 500 can be setup to use Windows Authentication to login to the program instead of entering  MAS 500 credentials each time.  This setup must be done at each workstation, but is useful in situations where a single employee uses the same computer all the time.  The following instructions walk you through this setup process:

 Splitting Batches

Every so often you may run into an issue with a problem voucher in batch.
No need to stop do the research to correct it before posting the whole batch, split it and leave the problem unposted.

The Classic Data import is very fast and comes with MAS 500. A disadvantage is that this tool requires data to be in specific formats and is heavy on user intervention. This is used for one time data imports.

2: Dataporter
